Central/Downtown Los Angeles

Downtown Los Angeles is generally thought to be bounded by the Los Angeles River on the east, the 101 freeway on the north, the 10 freeway on the south and the 110 freeway on the west.

Downtown Los Angeles can be divided into seven or so major subdistricts: The Civic Center and Little Tokyo, the Fashion District, the Historic Downtown Core, New Downtown (aka Bunker Hill or the Financial District), the old Pueblo and Chinatown, South Park, and the Wholesale District/Skid Row (aka "The Nickel"--for its location on 5th street).

Santa Monica

Santa Monica is a beachside city located in Los Angeles County, California USA, on the Pacific Ocean, south of Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, west of Westwood, Los Angeles, and north of Venice. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 84,084.

Santa Monica sits on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific. Palisades Park is a favorite walking area to view the ocean. Next to this park, the courtyard of the Miramar Hotel contains an enormous Moreton Bay Fig tree which was mentioned by the Californios of the 1700s.

Malibu

The City of Malibu is a beachfront community famous for its warm, sandy beaches and for being the home of countless movie stars and others associated with the Southern California motion picture and recording industries. Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (Calif. Route 1) which bisects the city; the city is also bounded (more or less) by Pacific Palisades to the southeast, the Santa Monica Mountains to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and Zuma State Beach and Ventura County to the northwest. Its other beaches include Malibu State Beach and Topanga State Beach; its parks include Malibu Creek State Park and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Westwood/Beverly Hills

Developed by the Janss family in the 1920s, it is known for its proximity to UCLA. A center of movie-going in West Los Angeles-and the site of many movie premieres--it is home to several vintage theaters, including the Pacific Crest, the Fox Village and the Bruin.

Beverly Hills is a small city completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles in southern California that is famous for being the home of many movie actors and actresses. Beverly Hills derives its unique personality from its being favored by show business people; it’s true that many actors, writers, directors, and producers live there and take part in its civic life.

Hollywood

Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. In 1910 the townsmen voted to become part of the City of Los Angeles to secure a badly needed water supply.

In the early 1900s, motion picture production companies from New York and New Jersey started moving to sunny California because of the good weather and longer days. The word "Hollywood" is also colloquially used to refer to the motion picture and television industry in Southern California, the term deriving from the famous community.

Wilshire

Includes the major communities of Fairfax, Hancock Park, Larchmont, Mid Wilshire, Miracle Mile.

San Fernando Valley

Most of the San Fernando Valley is within the City of Los Angeles, although several smaller cities are within the Valley as well; Burbank and Glendale are in the southeast corner of the Valley, Hidden Hills and Calabasas are in the southwest corner, and San Fernando, which is completely surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, is in the north Valley. Mulholland Drive, which runs along the ridgeline of the Santa Monica Mountains, marks the boundary between the Valley and the communities of Hollywood and Los Angeles' westside.

Burbank/Glendale

Burbank is a city in the San Fernando Valley, part of the Greater Los Angeles Area, in Los Angeles County, just north-east of the city of Los Angeles

Glendale is in the San Fernando Valley, part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 194,973. The city is bordered to the west by Burbank, to the east by Pasadena.

Pasadena

Located just 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, the city's popular shops and restaurants blend comfortably with tree-lined streets, distinctive neighborhoods, historic buildings and a vibrant cultural scene. Inland Empire

For people who live in Southern California, the Inland Empire is a popular term for the region that surrounds and includes the cities of Ontario, San Bernardino and Riverside. The name "Inland Empire" was first used in the 1950s to distinguish the region from the nearby Los Angeles area.

Sometimes called the Orange Empire, the massive region extends from the far eastern end of Los Angeles County and Orange County through Riverside County and San Bernardino County to the Arizona border.

South Bay

The South Bay is an area just south west of the city of Los Angeles. Made up of the beach side communities of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates. The South Bay has all this and more to offer residents and visitors alike. And what started off as nothing but one vast sweep of rolling hills covered with fields of grain and large herds of grazing sheep is now one of the most desirable places to live in the greater Los Angeles area.

Orange County

Orange County is the second most populous county in the state of California and the fifth most populous in the United States. It is a part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The county is well-known for its wealth and political conservatism.

It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Los Angeles County, on the northeast by San Bernardino County, on the east by Riverside County, and on the south by San Diego County. It was named after the citrus fruit that was prevalent in the region, although it is no longer the case in recent years. The county seat is Santa Ana.

Santa Clarita Valley

The Santa Clarita Valley is part of the Santa Clara River valley, squeezed between the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Susana Mountains to the South and the Sierra Pelona/Liebre Mountains/Topatopa Mountains to the North. Downstream of Santa Clarita, it is called Heritage Valley. The upstream portion is called Soledad Canyon.

San Bernardino/Riverside County

As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 185,401. It is nicknamed San Berdoo, which is generally taken as an insult by residents in the same way "Frisco" is to a resident of San Francisco.

Riverside County is a county located in the southeastern part of state of California, stretching from Orange County to the Colorado River, which is the border with Arizona. This county is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Ventura County

Ventura County is a county located on the California's Pacific coast, just northwest of Los Angeles. As of 2000 it had a population of 753,197. Its county seat is Ventura.
